Joe Calzaghe fights Bernard Hopkins on the 19th of April in America. Joe Calzaghe is the undisputed super middle weight champion of the world. Whereas Bernard Hopkins is the ring magazine champion of the light heavy weight division. Calzaghe is the strong favorite for the fight and you can expect him to win, as Hopkins is forty three years old and I think well past his best.
5 Important reasons why Calzaghe will win:
1. Calzaghe has the best work rate in the sport. He throws one thousand punches a fight. Whereas Hopkins averages only around three hundred. An old Hopkins will not be able to compete with Calzaghes work rate.
2. Hopkins will try to slow the pace of the fight, by holding Calzaghe. But as seen in the Kessler fight, this does not work. Joe will risk taking a few good shots to get some hits on Bernard.
3. Calzaghe is a lot quicker than an old Hopkins. Even though Hopkins is probably better defensively than Calzaghe, age does slow down reaction time.
4. Joe has fought the better opposition recently. Hopkins is coming off a win to Wright. Where as Calzaghe is coming off a win over Kessler. Between the two, I think currently Kessler is the much better fighter.
5. Age will play a big factor in this fight. We have not seen any major signs of Hopkins age just yet in the ring. I think we may come April the 19th. It is also important to note that Calzaghe is at his peak at his current age.
All these factors point to Calzaghe winning. I can not see Hopkins winning unless Calzaghe fights poorly, some thing he has rarely done over his long career.
